Lunch Favorites: What Makes the Perfect Burger?

How many times have you sat down at a restaurant, unsure of what you wanted for lunch, and then thought, I think I’ll have a burger? If you’re anything like us, you’ve probably done that a lot. Burgers are a tried-and-true favorite, and it’s hard to find someone who doesn’t enjoy a burger now and again. Burgers are common enough lunch options, but they’re not all the same. At Linda’s Breakfast Place, we want you to have a great meal every time you sit down with us.

But what makes a great burger? Let’s find out.

Start with the beef.

The beef patty is the central ingredient of a burger, so it’s important to get it right. You want high-quality beef, but you also want beef with the right meat-to-fat ratio. The best burgers are made with ground beef that is 20-25% fat. Fat gives the meat flavor and keeps your burger from being too dry. On the other hand, if there is too much fat in the beef, the burger will shrink dramatically as it cooks and be much too greasy.

Top it with the best.

Even if you decide on having a burger for lunch, picking which one you want can be tough! There are so many delicious toppings you can put on a burger, and how you combine them is key. Cheese adds extra flavor and a bit of salt, and it also helps hold the patty together when it melts. For a fresh, crisp, crunch, fresh lettuce, tomato, and onion are classic go-to’s. Bacon, mushrooms, and grilled veggies are also tasty and traditional burger toppings. And of course, you can’t forget the condiments! Most people love ketchup, but BBQ sauce is also popular if you want a little extra spice.

Finish with the bun.

You can’t put a great burger on a just-okay bun. It holds the whole thing together and adds a warm chewiness to the experience. A perfectly toasted bun completes the flavors and textures of a great burger. It also completes the presentation. We really do “eat with our eyes,” and the bun tops off the burger so that you can’t want to dig in as soon as you see it!
